Best Things to Do With Kids in Brisbane

A local's guide to the best parks, indoor play and family-friendly spots across Brisbane.

Best Things to Do With Kids in Brisbane

Brisbane is one of the easiest cities in Australia to fill a weekend with kids, you just need to know where to look. Here's where Brisbane families actually go.

Parks and outdoor play

South Bank's Riverside Green and the free Streets Beach lagoon are the obvious favourites, but New Farm Park's Rotary Park playground and Roma Street Parkland's dinosaur-themed play area get far less crowded and are just as good. For bigger kids, the bike paths along the river at West End are flat, shaded and stroller-friendly.

Indoor options for hot or wet days

Brisbane's humidity means indoor backup plans matter. QAGOMA's Children's Art Centre runs genuinely excellent interactive exhibitions, usually free. The Workshops Rail Museum in North Ipswich and the Sciencentre at South Bank are both built for hands-on exploring, not just looking.

Toddler-specific

Anywhere with shade and soft fall surfaces wins with toddlers. Orleigh Park in West End has a fenced playground right by the river, and the Botanic Gardens at Mount Coot-tha has enough space for a wandering toddler without the stress of traffic nearby.

Where PPP fits in

If you're newer to Brisbane or simply stretched thin, an In-Home Angel can be the difference between a weekend that happens and one that doesn't. Local Angels already know these spots, the shaded corners, the good coffee near the good playgrounds, the days South Bank gets too busy to bother.

Brisbane rewards families who know their way around. If you don't yet, that's exactly what your village is for.
