OUR FAMILY NEEDS A LOSS SEASON

I WANT TO HELP HOLD A FAMILY

THE HEART OF THE LOSS SEASON

Eight Weeks of Being Held

Grief does not stop the washing.

It does not make dinner disappear or mean the other children stop needing Mum.

There are still breakfasts to make, school bags to find, dishes in the sink, appointments to attend, children asking what is for dinner and washing quietly filling another basket.

For eight weeks, an Angel helps carry life around the family.

The purpose of a Loss Season is to create room around grief.

Room to sleep.
Room to cry.
Room to attend an appointment.
Room to sit with your children.
Room to have a shower.
Room to remember.

Room to have a day where very little gets done by you because someone else has walked through the door and started carrying some of it.

Your family does not have to use every visit in the same way. The care follows what life looks like that week.

What Your Angel Can Carry

Breakfast, a school uniform and fresh linen prepared in a peaceful family home

THE HOUSE

The house keeps moving.

Laundry still fills the basket. Dishes still reach the sink. Beds still need fresh linen and the spaces your family lives in still need care.

Your Angel can help progress laundry, washing, dishes, linen and agreed everyday household tasks so the home can keep functioning around you.

Your family’s preferences lead the care.

Baby belongings, photographs and keepsakes remain exactly where they are unless you specifically ask for help with them.

FOOD

Everyone still needs to eat.

Grief can make deciding what to eat feel enormous.

Your Angel can help prepare familiar meals, simple snacks and food for the family according to your care plan.

Food preferences and arrangements for ingredients are discussed with you before care begins.

The goal is simple.

One less thing for you to think about that day.

YOUR OTHER CHILDREN

They are grieving too, and they still need ordinary childhood.

Where there are other children at home, your Angel can help with play, meals and familiar routines.

That might mean breakfast before school, someone playing on the floor, preparing lunch, helping keep the afternoon familiar or simply giving Mum enough room to sleep, shower, attend an appointment or sit quietly.

The ordinary parts of childhood can keep moving around them while the family grieves together.

YOU

You do not have to perform grief for us.

Some days you may want to talk.

Some days you may want someone quietly moving around the house while you say almost nothing.

Some days you may want company.

Some days you may want space.

Your Angel follows your family’s lead.

There is no expectation that you make conversation, entertain anyone or have the house ready before your Angel arrives.

She is coming to help.

ONE POSSIBLE MORNING

What does being held actually look like?

8:00 AM

Your Angel arrives.

There is no expectation that the house is ready or that you are. You decide together what would help most today.

8:15 AM

Breakfast and the first practical things.

Breakfast is sorted for the children while a load of washing goes on.

9:00 AM

The morning keeps moving.

The kitchen is reset and school or childcare routines continue.

10:00 AM

An hour that belongs to you.

You might rest, shower, attend an appointment, sit outside, cry, sleep or simply have time where nobody needs anything from you.

11:30 AM

Something for later.

Lunch or something simple for later is prepared.

BEFORE YOUR ANGEL LEAVES

The next pieces are settled.

The next practical things are settled where possible and you know when your next planned visit is.

Every family and every visit will look different. This example simply shows what practical care can make possible.

Grief does not follow a schedule.

Your care should respond to the family in front of us.

One week may contain appointments, paperwork and people coming and going.

Another may be quiet.

A particular date may suddenly feel much harder than expected.

Your children may need more support one week and you may need more rest the next.

Your Loss Season is planned with you across eight weeks within your funded care allocation, with regular check ins so the support can respond to what your family needs.

AN APPOINTMENT DAY

Your Angel helps hold familiar routines at home while you attend somewhere you need to be.

A HEAVY DAY

Very little needs explaining. Your Angel arrives and begins with what is in front of her.

A FAMILY DAY

The children have someone available for play, meals and routines while you remain close without having to carry everything.

A LIGHTER DAY

There may be conversation, a walk, food prepared, children playing and a little more room to breathe.

There is no correct way for an eight week Loss Season to look.

This is your home, your family and your grief.

Your family’s language, routines and wishes matter.

Your Angel asks before changing things in your home.

Baby belongings, photographs, clothing and keepsakes are left untouched unless you specifically ask for help with them.

You can tell us what feels helpful, what feels difficult and what you would prefer us to leave alone.

Your care plan is built with you before your Loss Season begins.

PPP Angels provide practical and emotional support within their role.

Specialist grief counselling and medical care remain with appropriately qualified services.

With your consent, PPP can help connect you with specialist support where appropriate.

You remain in control of what support enters your home.

ELIGIBILITY

You do not need to decide whether your loss was “enough.”

The Lionel Thomas Loss Season is intended for women and families navigating:

MiscarriageStillbirthNeonatal deathInfant lossTermination for medical reasons

There is no gestation threshold.

Applications are considered privately and individually.

Location and the availability of appropriately trained Angels are considered before a funded place is confirmed.

Current PPP operations are in Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Applications submitted now are for the 2027 program.

If you are unsure whether the Loss Season is right for your family, you can still begin privately and ask.

APPLY FOR A LOSS SEASON

You do not need to write your whole story.

Beginning an application simply starts a private conversation with Caitlyn.

Tell us who the application is for, where you are and how you would prefer us to contact you.

You can share more when you feel ready.

Who are you applying for?
Preferred contact method
What would help at home?

You do not need to explain your loss here.

Applying does not commit you to receiving care. A funded place and proposed start date are confirmed privately with you.

GIVE IN MEMORY

Their name can carry care too.

Some people who help fund a Loss Season will be carrying someone they love with them too.

If you would like to contribute in memory of your baby, your child, a family member or someone else deeply loved, you can include their name privately with your contribution.

Their name does not need to become public for their life to become part of something meaningful.

Your dedication will remain privately connected to your donation record.

A contribution made in their memory becomes part of the care that reaches another family.

Your dedication remains private.

HELP THE LEGACY GROW

Your organisation can help put Angels into homes.

Ten families every year is where Lionel’s legacy begins.

With the right people and organisations around it, there is an opportunity for that care to reach even further over time.

Businesses, workplaces and community groups can become part of the Lionel Thomas Loss Season through direct contributions, fundraising initiatives, event partnerships and longer term funding relationships.

PPP is building ongoing pathways for our own community to help grow the fund.

We would love to build a wider community around Lionel’s legacy made up of organisations that understand the value of practical support when a family is grieving.

FUND CARE

Contribute directly to the Lionel Thomas Loss Season Fund and help build the annual funding required to provide eight weeks of Angel care to approved families.

FUNDRAISE

Bring your workplace, customers, team or community together around Lionel’s legacy through an approved fundraising initiative.

PPP can speak with you about how the fundraiser connects with the Loss Season Fund and how the program should be represented.

Can someone help me apply?

Yes. Someone you trust can assist you, or a support person or professional can make a referral with your permission.

When does the program begin?

Funded Loss Seasons begin in 2027, with ten seasons planned each year. Caitlyn will discuss availability and any proposed start date with you individually.

WHY HIS NAME IS HERE

The little boy behind the Loss Season.

The Lionel Thomas Loss Season was created by PPP Network founder Caitlyn Hudson in honour of her son, Lionel Thomas.

It carries a deeply personal purpose: bringing practical care to families whose lives have been changed by loss, so they have support with the everyday needs of home and family while they grieve.

LIONEL’S LEGACY

One little life. A lifetime of love. A legacy of care.

He was here. He is loved. And because he was here, other families will be held.
